Lower your energy costs and improve hot water heater performance with tank insulation

Easy-to-install tank insulation can lead to immediate savings

Installing hot water tank insulation is a simple way to lower your energy bills and begin making progress toward sustainability goals. Hot water tank insulation, also known as water heater blankets, works by wrapping around your water heater to help to reduce heat loss. The added insulation also keeps your water heater at a consistent temperature, reducing the stress on your appliance and overall water heating costs.

The Comprehensive Energy Management Solutions (CEMS) program is partnering with Synergy Companies, Future Fuels, and Verdant to provide rebates to SDG&E® commercial customers to make this upgrade at no cost.

CEMS tank insulation rebates cover the installation of either 1-inch or 2-inch fiberglass or foam insulation to your existing storage or transfer tanks.

Benefits to adding hot water tank insulation include:

  • Immediate energy savings

  • No upfront cost

  • Improved heat retention, reducing water heater strain

  • Lower energy bills

  • Simple installation process

In 2023, we helped San Diego businesses save the equivalent of 1,691,015 pounds of coal burned by installing hot water tank insulation projects. With CEMS and Synergy on your side, saving money on utility bills couldn’t be easier.
